16 мая 2023 г. на кафедре массовых коммуникаций прошла заключительная встреча в рамках цикла семинаров “Academic Writing Clinic” в 2022/2023 учебном году. Последнее занятие, посвященное разработке убедительного исследовательского предложения, провел преподаватель кафедры Мустафа Мухаммед Джамиу.

По традиции, занятие началось с обзора трех предыдущих встреч и представления новой темы. Участников познакомили с целью исследовательского предложения и его структурой: введение, постановка проблемы, цели, обзор литературы, структура и методы исследования, ссылки на цитируемую литературу. Эти элементы были детально обсуждены, спикер рассказал, что каждый из них должен включать.
Далее докладчик объяснил, что «одно из ключевых значений исследовательского предложения заключается в том, что оно поможет студентам найти подходящего руководителя. Продемонстрированные глубокие знания в области исследования и понимание того, что к каким результатам оно может привести, послужат хорошим стартом для значимых научных работ».

Завершая занятие, преподаватель добавил, что к предложению можно добавить график исследования и смету, так как они помогут узнать количество ресурсов, необходимых для планирования и отслеживания исследовательской работы от начала и до конца. Участники также получили задание на дом – разработать исследовательское предложение для своей будущей магистерской диссертации.

On the 16th of May 2023 the final session of the Academic Writing Clinic seminar series for the 2022/2023 academic year was held at the Mass Communication Department. The last session titled “Academic Writing: Developing a Compelling Research Proposal” was taught by Mustapha Muhammed Jamiu, a lecturer of the Department.
As a tradition of the series, the session began with a review of the three previous sessions with the participants and an introduction of the new topic and its outlines. The participants were introduced to the purpose of the research proposal, and the structure which are: introduction, problem statement, objectives, literature review, research design and methods, and references of the cited literature. The structures were discussed thoroughly as to what each should entail.
The speaker further explained that “one of the key importance of a research proposal is that it will help prospective students find a suitable supervisor through the display of in-depth knowledge of the field to research and awareness of what it entails with regards to resources and available time which will serve as a guide for the research work”.
While rounding up the session, the instructor added that the research schedule and budget could be equally added to the proposal as they will help to know the number of resources needed to plan and track the research work from the beginning to the end. Participants were also given a home task to design a research proposal for their future Master’s thesis.
